After a few mediocre seasons, the Bearcats under Coach Bates would have a resurgence in 1940 as they would reprise their title as county champions. The season began much like it had the year before as the ‘Cats looked dominant in their first three games before starting conference play and dropping a game against Marysville. Rather than collapse in the second half of the season, the Bearcats went on a tear as they easily dispatched Arlington and Edmonds before meeting up against their rival Snohomish. In the ensuing game, the ‘Cats defeated the Panthers to capture the county championship. Monroe ended the season losing to Ferndale but they still finished a great season with a sparkling 6-2 record and a title to their name.
